About PleadingReady
Many people go to court without a lawyer. Papers that aren't typed from an official form usually have to be on pleading paper: numbered lines, set margins, a caption in the right place and a footer on every page. Getting that right in a word processor is fiddly. PleadingReady does the layout for you, for free, and your document never leaves your device.
How we get the format right
Every margin, font size and line position comes from the court's own published rules, never from template websites. Each format shows the rules it follows and the date we last checked them. The California format follows California Rules of Court, rules 2.100–2.119, checked on courts.ca.gov. See the rules.
Rules change. If you spot something that no longer matches the official rules, please tell us.
What we are not
PleadingReady is a formatting tool, not a lawyer, and this is not legal advice. It only lays out the words you type. Check your court’s rules before you file. PleadingReady is an independent website. It is not affiliated with, endorsed by or acting for any court. The court decides whether to accept a filing. More about what the tool does and doesn't do.
Your privacy
Online document tools usually upload your files to their servers. Ours doesn't: your document is laid out and made into a PDF and a Word file inside your web browser. Privacy policy.
How the site is paid for
The tool is free, with no sign-up, watermark or paywall. The site may be supported by advertising.
