Blank 28-line pleading paper (free Word and PDF)
Free blank pleading paper with 28 numbered lines, laid out to the California Rules of Court (rules 2.100–2.111). No sign-up, no watermark.
PleadingReady is a formatting tool, not a lawyer, and this is not legal advice. It only lays out the words you type. Check your court’s rules before you file.
Rather not fight Word?
Typing on blank pleading paper means keeping every line on its number and building the caption by hand. The free California pleading paper tool does that part: type your details and text, and download a finished Word file and PDF.
What's on the page
- 28 numbered lines, ⅓ inch apart, restarting at 1 on every page (rule 2.108)
- Line 1 starts 1 inch from the top; line 8 is where the court's title goes (rule 2.111)
- Left margin 1½ inches, right margin ½ inch, with ruled lines on both sides (rules 2.107, 2.108)
- A footer line for the page number and the document's title (rules 2.109, 2.110)
- Times New Roman, 12 point (rules 2.104, 2.105)
Using the Word template
The line numbers are Word's own line numbering, so they follow your text. Keep the text double-spaced (the template is set to exactly 24 points), and don't add space before or after paragraphs, or your lines will drift off the numbers. Type your document's title into the footer.
Using Google Docs? It changes the line spacing of Word files, so fewer than 28 lines fit on a page. Read more.
